Once numbering in the thousands, today only a few hundred of this iconic Canadian breed remain. This hard-working animal played an important role in the survival of rural Newfoundland; they hauled wood for building and heating houses, they pulled kelp from the beach for gardens, and were a dependable means of transportation for families. This year’s charity is The Newfoundland Pony Society, a charity focused on preserving this breed for future generations and saving an important part of our nation’s history. Donations will help fund development of a Heritage Park, visitor centre, and out-reach programs./
You can give to them directly on their website, through the donation option in our con store, and by bidding on items in our charity auction on Sunday, January 9.
